This is the third in a three part series by Creating Your Masterpiece entitled Take Action! This week, Jennifer and Leah will discuss how to *work* your action plan and how to overcome any obstacles that may arise, how to stay motivated, focused and clear on the plan. The first part of the series focused on Visualizing Your Success and really getting an understanding of what success looks like to you in all areas of your life. In part two, they focused on actually developing and creating a SPECIFIC action plan, utilizing SMART goals. Now, you are ready to put that plan in place!

Many times we create our action plans, and we are ready to move forward and then BOOM – we run into a hurdle or roadblock, or worse yet, we become unmotivated and loose focus on the plan. How do we overcome this and still stay the course when it comes to moving forward with our plans?

1. Set mini-sprints (and rewards) within your plan to help you stay motivated and focused. If your goal is to loose 20 lbs., have a mini-sprint in which you reward yourself with a manicure, pedicure or new book after every 5 lbs you loose.

2. Write down potential obstacles in advance, and have a plan in place to overcome them! If you know you want to spend more time with your spouse, and your goal is to have 3 *date* nights per month, come up with a plan of action for the unexpected, IE., the babysitter cancels, a child gets sick, you have to work late. things do happen, the key here is to not let a minor set back sabatoge your overall goal.

3. Think outside of the box – get creative! If your goal is to go on a vacation – but money is an obstacle, think about *house swapping* for a weekend with a friend who lives out of town, or plan a *stay-cation* where you turn your home into a swanky hotel for the weekend, and send the kids to your parent’s house.

4. Leverage your contacts and connections – let them know your plan! Ask for their support along the way.

5. Take into consideration the time and the amount of money you will need to see your plan through, and make sure it is something you can afford to do

6. Work with a coach who will help keep you motivated, focused and accountable for meeting your goals! The important thing is to meet those goals!

This week Leah and Jennifer continue with their three part series on how to Take Action in your life! The second part of the series deals with creating an action plan! Leah and Jen talk about how you need to start this process by coming up with goals that you want to achieve. And, the most important part of coming up with your goals is to make sure they are SMART goals! A SMART goal is:

Specific – Write down your goal, and get very specific. Don’t just say “I want to loose weight”, instead say “My goal is to drop 10 lbs.”

Measurable – Make sure your goal is set up in a way that  you can measure your success along the way! This will keep you motivated and on track!

Attainable – Make sure you can actually obtain your goal. You want it to be challenging but not overwhelming or non-attainable.

Rewarding – What is your reward for meeting the goal? If the goal is to spend more time with your family, the reward is obvious! But if your goal is to organize all your office files, you may want to consider rewarding yourself with a movie or a dinner out at a nice restaurant once you obtain the goal.

Timely – Do not set open ended goals. Make sure your goal has a start date and an end date. Otherwise it isn’t a goal, it is a wish or a dream.

Leah and Jen encourage you to start by setting mini-goals that you can achieve within 30 days.

On next week’s episode they will conclude the three part series by discussing how you can *work* your plan and stay motivated along the way! Be sure to tune in for this three part series. You won’t want to miss it!
