On this week’s podcast, Jennifer and Leah are joined by Licensed Mental Health Counselor Ruth Stern. Ruth has over 30 years experience working with clients to help them overcome self sabotaging beliefs that get in the way of them meeting their goals.

Leah and Jen will focus this week on what stops us from reaching our goals. Many times we know what we need to do, but for some reason we just aren’t able to do it. We procrastinate or make up excuses as to why we are not meeting the goals. One thing that could be holding us back is ourselves! Yes, that’s right. We could be getting in the way of our own success! Not intentionally, but with our self sabotaging beliefs and self talk. All of us have *stories* that we have carried around with us for years, and we’ve told ourselves these *stories* so many times, that we truly begin to believe them. And, when we do that makes it impossible to move past them.

For example, let’s say that in your family you were the *pretty* one and your sister was the *smart* one…this could hold you back in the future, because you don’t deem yourself smart enough.

Ruth Stern introduces us to some techniques that will allow you to get past your story and lead the life you were intended to lead. One of the revolutionary concepts she will be discussing is EFT (Emotional Freedom Techniques).

Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT) is an emotional, needle free version of acupuncture that is based on new discoveries regarding the connection between your body’s subtle energies, your emotions, and your health. EFT has been reported successful in thousands of cases covering a huge range of emotional, health and performance issues. It often works where nothing else will.

This week’s podcast focuses on Simple Acts of Kindness that you can do that make a huge impact on the lives of others. Jen and Leah discuss the importance of incorporating these simple acts of kindness into your life every day. They offer practical tips and suggestions on way you can Pay It Forward that will not only make you feel good and help others, but also prompt others to pass on simple acts of kindness as well. For example, pick up the phone and call someone you care about and tell them you are thinking about them. It will make their day! Other simple acts of kindness suggestions include:

1. Volunteer! Places like nursing homes, schools, and the humane society are always looking for an extra pair of hands and a friendly smile.

2. If you are driving on a toll road, when you stop to pay your toll, tell the cashier that you also want to pay for the driver behind you as well.

3. If you are at the grocery store with a cart load of food, and the person behind you has just a few items, let that person go in front of you.

4. If you are a female, why not open the door for a male – I guarantee you will make his day!

5. if you are walking down the street or are at the mall, make a point to SMILE at those you pass.

Basically, simple acts of kindness are just small ways to connect as human beings and to share yourself with others. Never underestimate the power you have to make someone’s day! After all, it really is about following the Golden Rule: Do Unto Others As You Would Have Done to You.

So, here’s your challenge, make it a point to practice at least one simple act of kindness each day. You won’t be disappointed!

On this week’s podcast Jen and Leah wrap up their two part series on Creating Your Success and Abundance. The ladies discuss how you can overcome obstacles that may come your way as you are moving towards your goals. Some of these obstacles may be physical in manner. For example, your vision of success in your physical environment is living in a villa in Tuscany and you don’t have the financial means to make it happen right away. When these obstacles are present, you will need to get very specific and clear on your action plans….exactly how much money do you need to make this dream come true? How can you reach this goal?

Often times however, the obstacle make take the form of self sabotaging beliefs and behaviors that we bring about ourselves! Do you have *stories* that you continually tell yourself? For example, “I’m not good enough to do that” or “I’m not smart enough, pretty enough, rich enough, etc etc.”

If we continually think about ourselves in this manner, we begin to believe it! And, then others begin to believe it! It is a vicious cycle! Instead, why not start saying positive things to yourself!

Self sabatoging beliefs and behaviors can really take the wind out of our sails! They can lead to procrastination, giving up, or loss of enthusiasm. Remember, on YOU can control your thoughts, words and actions! So, start replacing the negative, self sabatoging thoughts and behaviors with positive, uplifting messages!

This week Leah and Jennifer begin their two part series on Creating YOUR Succcess and Abundance in life podcast. They talk about the importance of really knowing what you want your life to be like. Before you can achieve success and abundance, you must identify what success and abundance looks like to you.

We really have 5 key areas in our lives, and we need to define what success is for each area. Remember, everyone’s definition of success will be different!

Financial – is success having a million dollars in the bank? Or, is it being debt free? Or, having enough money to provide your children with a college education?

Relationships – For some people, this mean having a large family with loving children and a spouse. For others, it could be increasing the number of close friends you have, or improving a relationship that is important in your life. For others still, it might be improving the relationship you have with yourself!

Health & Emotion – This could mean anything from being physically fit to ridding your life of stress. Success in this area is critical. If you don’t feel good or are not in a good emotional state, chances are the other areas of your life will suffer as well.

Physical Environment – Success in this area covers many things. Are you living in a home that you love? In the geographic area you enjoy? Do you surround yourself with things that bring you pleasure?

Spirituality – Spiritual success means different things to different people. For some it is having a strong connection with a church or religious community; while for others it might be having a sense of inner peace and prupose.

The definition of success truly relates to living your life with passion! And, when your passion intersects with your path, you will have found your purpose. So, how do you actually get to that point?

First, you identify WHAT it is that you want. Secondly, you create your path to get there! You have to get really clear and focused on what steps you need to take to reach your goals, and thus create the success and abundance in your life. And, you should always think in terms of long term success and not about the instant gratification that comes with a *quick fix*. Afterall, life really is about the journey!
